Northwest India may not likely get monsoon rain for at least another week, say global weather agencies.

On Friday, rogue westerly to north-westerly flows from across the border were seen chasing away monsoon easterlies towards east India and Himalayan foothills.

SITTING OUT

The specific regions likely to sit out of the wet session are the granary states of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, west Rajasthan and adjoining north Gujarat.

Western parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand also are likely to receive less than normal precipitation during this period.

A core of the rains is forecast to migrate back to east India ad parts of central India, according to these forecasts.

Both Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have since turned monsoon-unfriendly from lack of supportive activity.

Meanwhile on Friday, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the monsoon caravan has rolled further north into the farming heartland.

MONSOON COVERAGE

It advanced into some more parts of Gujarat; east Rajasthan; most of Uttar Pradesh; parts of Haryana and Punjab and entire Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

The northern limit passed through Jamnagar, Ahmadabad, Jaipur, Aligarh, Chandigarh and Amritsar.

The IMD said conditions are favourable for its advance into more of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana (including Delhi), Punjab and entire Uttar Pradesh during the next three days.

Heavy rainfall has been warned of in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh during next two days.

BIAS TO EAST

In this manner, there is a clear bias for the rain to concentrate more to east and central India.

Outlook valid until July 13 (Friday next) said rain or thundershowers are likely at many places over the west coast, east and central India, the northeast and Uttar Pradesh.

Thundershowers may also break out at many places over western Himalayan region but only at a few places over Punjab, Haryana and east Rajasthan.
