As there were no takers for 22.5 per cent of the year's highest offer of 17.60 lakh kg offered for Sale No: 30 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions despite shedding prices by Rs 3 a kg, teas worth Rs 2.26 crore remained unsold

“Orthodox leaf market was easier by Rs 3-4 a kg and even then, many invoices suffered withdrawal. Better liquoring CTC leaf market was irregular while better mediums eased Rs 2-4. However, cleaner, smaller, blacker types gained up to Rs 7. Orthodox dust market was down up to Rs 5. Better liquoring CTC dust market was irregular while cleaner, blacker dusts gained up to Rs 7. Some smaller finer dusts could not be sold despite shedding up to Rs 3,” an auctioneer told Business Line .

Homedale Estate teas, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped CTC market when Limtex India Ltd bought it for Rs 151 a kg. Vigneshwar Estate got Rs 138, Shanthi Supreme Rs 134, Darmona Estate, Blue Monte Speciality and Hittakkal Estate Rs 130 each. In all, 67 marks got Rs 100 and more.

Among orthodox teas from corporate sector, Chamraj got Rs 191 a kg, Havukal Rs 160, Kairbetta Rs 157, Curzon Rs 147, Tiger Hill clonal Rs 144 and Quinshola Clonal Rs 130. In all, 21 marks got Rs 100 and more.

Among green tea, Wood Bridge Estate's ‘Hyson' grade, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing, fetched Rs 210.

On the export front, Pakistan bought in wide range – Rs 35-75 a kg, the CIS Rs 41-71 and European markets Rs 43-62.

Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging Rs 36-40 a kg for plain leaf grades and Rs 80-125 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged Rs 40-45 for plain dusts and Rs 85-133 for brighter liquoring dusts.
