Flue Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco variety to the tune of 1.43 lakh kg has been marketed at the end of third-day of tobacco auctions at various platforms in Karnataka.

Of the quantity marketed, Bright grades comprised 57.99 per cent and traded at an average price of Rs 122.79 a kg. Medium grades comprised 38.42 per cent traded at an average price of Rs 112.60/kg and Low grades comprised the rest traded at an average price of Rs 71.59/kg.

Arrivals are yet to pick up at the auction platforms. At present arrivals are low in the range of 500-800 bales (of 125-150 kg).

According to Mr K.N. Vishakantaiah, Regional Manager, Tobacco Board, Karnataka, “Crop quality is in good condition and it is reflecting in large quantity of Brights and Medium grades getting sold instantly. In the first three days of auctions, highest price fetched was around Rs 125/kg. The volume is set to pick up after Dasara festival,” he added.

Tobacco being a restricted crop, the board has fixed Karnataka's crop size for 2011-12 at 100 million kg.

Following are the platform-wise auction details as on September 19: Hunsur-3 total quantity marketed 19105.30 kg (average price Rs 120.98), Ramanathpura-I 22,780.70 kg (Rs 110.79), Kampalapura 15,233 kg (Rs 114.46), Periyapatna-II 8227 kg (Rs 117.11), Hunsur-II 10,182.10 kg (Rs 121.33), H D Kote 8847 kg (Rs 115.89), Ramanathapura-II 9346.80 kg (Rs 110.84), Kamplapura-II 4482.90 kg (Rs 114.88), Kamplapura-III 10012.50 kg (Rs 119.23), Hunsur-I 10,739.80 kg (Rs 122.46).
