A new record was created in the volume sold at Sale No: 29 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association.
“For the first time in the history of tea auctioning anywhere in South India, more than 1,000 lots have been sold in a single session.
In all, we sold 1,090 lots at an average price of ₹64 a kg,” Broos Ravichandran, General Manager, Paramount Tea Marketing South India Auctioneers, told Business Line .
Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC leaf market when Om Enterprises bought it for ₹192 a kg and CTC dust market when Vora Sons bought its Pekoe Dust for ₹192 and GLT Enterprises bought its Red Dust, also for ₹192.
Hittakkal Estate got ₹186 and Deepika Supreme ₹185. Among orthodox teas, Kairbetta got ₹221, Chamraj ₹215, Corsley ₹199 and Glendale ₹195.
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ₹44-48 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹100-160 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ₹45-49 for plain dusts and ₹120-180 for brighter liquoring dusts. Exporters returned to the market purchasing for Pakistan at ₹48-118 a kg and the CIS at ₹46-62.
