Turmeric auction at the Regulated Marketing Committee was delayed on Friday as traders complained of higher trash in the bags.

Officials said usually the farmers pack the turmeric with stones and dust. When the auction gets over, farmers will give extra turmeric for the stones and dusts in the bag.

But on Friday, when the auction was started, traders said that day by day, trash in turmeric bags is increasing each passing day and wanted that after cleaning the turmeric, farmers should give them the exact quantity of turmeric for the stones. But some farmers objected to it and said they will grant only a portion of turmeric for the trash.

Because of this, there was some discussion between farmers and traders. Traders asked farmers to offer only cleaned turmeric and refused to buy turmeric that had trash.

Farmers accept that in a bag of 75 kg, there may be around one kg stone . As a result, the auction was delayed for three hours. Finally after 2.30 p.m., farmers accepted that they will give exact quantity of turmeric for the stones.

A meeting of all farmers associations here on Friday decided to conduct a rally on July 21 from Kodumudi to Erode and conduct a meeting at Erode to represent the Government to fix the minimum support price for turmeric.
