The Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) is organizing 49th All India Convention on Oilseeds, Oils Trade & Industry here on November 5-6. The convention which is being organized under the aegis of the Central Organization for Oil Industry & Trade (COOIT) will be attended by nearly 800-1000 delegates including scientists, technologists, trade & industry professionals from across the country.

Mr Rajesh Agrawal, spokesperson, SOPA here on Wednesday said the theme of this year’s convention is -- `Productivity – A Gateway to Growth’. The entire event will be focused on the key issue of augmenting productivity for better future prospects, Agrawal said adding that during the two-day convention, experts from oilseeds industries will critically focus on the challenges and opportunities that lies ahead. A souvenir containing articles by experts as well as statistical data, information on oilseeds, oil trade & industry, will also be released during the convention.

Replying to a question, Mr Agrawal said with effective use of fertilizers and thrust given on quality yield, the productivity of soybean in the country has increased over the years with current yield of soybean production across the country hovering between 1.1 to 1.4 tons per hectare but we further want to push soybean production in the country to 1.5 to 2 tons per hectare in the coming years and it would be possible only when the government of India gives proper protection to the soy industries and lay thrust on increase in productivity.

Defending survey for caste by the SOPA carried by it in the past several years, he said there has been hardly 2-3% variations in survey forcaste and actual production of soybean in the country. This is primarily because of scientific approach adopted by us in survey of soy crops across the country the SOPA spokesperson said.
