Dr S. Mohan, Professor of Agricultural Entomology at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has bagged the Swami Sahajanand Saraswati Extension Scientist/Worker Award for 2010 for his contribution in the field of agricultural extension.
The Union Minister for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Mr Sharad Pawar, gave away the award to Dr Mohan during the ICAR Foundation Day and Award Ceremony at New Delhi on July 16.
A TNAU release said that Dr Mohan was presented this award in recognition of the TNAU Stored Grain Insect Pest Management Kit developed by him and for his extensive extension and field work besides the effort taken to popularise the probe trap, meant for detecting and trapping insects in stored grains. The farm varsity findings show that around 2.5 lakh people were are using the TNAU probe trap across India; About 200 institutions (State Agricultural Universities and Krishi Vigyan Kendras) use the kit for teaching and training purposes.
