July was a relatively better month for tea production with the Tea Board estimating 4.49 per cent increase over July last year.
Production rose to 162.09 million kg (mkg) from 155.13 mkg a year ago.
North India’s production fell marginally with the output totalling 138.20 mkg (July 2013- 138.25 mkg).
Assam’s production dropped by 3.22 per cent to 91.66 mkg (94.71 mkg). West Bengal’s production increased by 8.20 per cent to 43.15 mkg (39.88 mkg).
South India’s output increased by a whopping 41.53 per cent to 23.89 mkg (16.88 mkg) Tamil Nadu’s output was up at 18.02 (13.40 mkg) and Kerala’s to 5.36 mkg (3.16 mkg).
The cumulative production in the seven months is down by 10.87 mkg.
Till July this calendar, India produced 543.02 mkg against 553.89 mkg in the same period a year ago.
Of this, North India produced 398.48 mkg (420.80 mkg) and South India 144.54 mkg (133.09 mkg).
