Amidst low arrivals, prices at Kochi Tea auction continue to slide this week with prices of several varieties quoting lower. With a fair demand, the quantity on offer in CTC dust grades was low at 10,71,000 kg.

In sale no 42, the market for select best liquoring teas barely remained steady while others were lower by ₹5 to ₹10 and sometimes more especially the high priced teas.

The decline in prices for medium and plain grainier varieties was less, as the sale progressed. However, improved enquiry noticed from exporters for these categories, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

The demand was less for Orthodox grades and the quantity on offer was 10,400 kg, which was low compared to last week. The market had even witnessed 99 per cent withdrawals due to low and lack of bids.

In the best quotation for Cochin CTC dusts, good varieties fetched ₹90-141, medium grades ruled at ₹70-90 and plain quoted at ₹55-65.

However, the demand was better for leaf varieties with Orthodox grades quoting 156,500 kg.

The market for Nilgiri Whole Leaf and Brokens was steady to firm and sometimes dearer. Corresponding Fannings was lower. But Well Made, Clean Black Bolder Brokens, Tippy grades and Whole Leaf was firm to dearer.

CIS countries were active in the auction along with traditional exporters, combined with a better demand from upcountry buyers for leaf varieties.

The quantity on offer in CTC leaf was also low at 71,000 kg and the market for Select Best Bolder Brokens was steady. Others were irregular and lower and witnessed some withdrawals. Exporters and upcountry buyers absorbed the quantity sold.

In the dust category, Manjolai SFD quoted the best prices of ₹148 followed by Monica SFD at ₹143. In leaf grades, Chamraj Green Tea FOP (sup) fetched the best prices of ₹341 followed by Pascoes Hyson Green Tea at ₹280.
