The air over almost the entire country except Gujarat and adjoining southwest Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh is waiting to be lit up with weather as enabling conditions stacked up in anticipation.

Isolated rain or snowfall has been recorded over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand among a number of other stations in the country during the day on Friday.

An India Meteorological Department (IMD) update this (Saturday) morning said that isolated rainfall was also reported from Punjab, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

An incoming western disturbance, the principal cog in the wheel of emerging weather and waiting its turn over north Pakistan and adjoining northeast Afghanistan, has shifted bearing to further east over north Pakistan and neighbourhood.

It would affect western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of northwest India at least until Thursday next, the IMD update said.

The system has already induced the formation of an induced upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan and adjoining central Pakistan. The upper air cyclonic circulation over Meghalaya and neighbourhood in lower levels also persisted.

A weather-maker trough runs down from east Uttar Pradesh all the way to south Tamil Nadu across Madhya Pradesh, interior Maharashtra and interior Karnataka.

Satellite imagery early on Saturday morning indicated the presence of convective (rain-bearing) clouds over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, southeast Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, southeast Bay of Bengal, southeast Arabian Sea, Comorin area and south Andaman Sea.

Low to medium clouds are seen over parts of central, east, northeast and south peninsular India.

A weather warning said that isolated thunder squalls would occur over Punjab, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, West Bengal and Sikkim until tomorrow (Sunday).

Scattered dust storms or thunderstorms with isolated thunder squalls would occur over Haryana, Delhi and north Rajasthan and isolated over west Uttar Pradesh and south Rajasthan during this period. Isolated rain or snowfall may occur over Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

A short-term outlook said that fairly widespread rain or snowfall would occur over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and scattered over Uttarakhand until Monday. However the precipitation activity would increase over Uttarakhand from the day after (Monday).

Scattered rain or thundershowers would occur over the Northeastern States until Monday and increase thereafter. Scattered rain or thundershowers would occur over Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Sikkim and isolated over east Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and Vidarbha.

Scattered rain or thundershowers would occur over Karnataka and Kerala and isolated over rest of south peninsular India, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Scattered dust storms or thunderstorms would occur over Haryana, Delhi and north Rajasthan and isolated over west Uttar Pradesh and south Rajasthan until Monday.

An extended outlook until Tuesday said that isolated rain or snow would occur over western Himalayan region. Fairly widespread rain or thundershowers would occur over the Northeastern States and scattered over Kerala and Karnataka.
