This week at Sale No. 19, the total offerings (packages) at three North Indian tea auction centres – Kolkata, Guwahati and Siliguri – were lower at 1,24,613 as compared to 1,99,887 in the corresponding sale previous year, according to J Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd., the tea auctioneers.

At Kolkata, the offerings comprised CTC/Dust 40,627 (66,805), Orthodox 6,679 (26,287) and Darjeeling 2,373 (3,625) kg. The figures for Guwahati were 37,733 (65,417) and for Siliguri 37,201 (37,753) kg.

Selected liquoring Assam CTC brokens sold at around last levels while the remainder tended irregularly lower, particularly fannings. Good Dooars sold readily at firm rates while the remainder was irregularly lower. Tata Global operated selectively. There was good enquiry from North India and local sections.

Well made and liquoring Orthodox offerings were readily absorbed . The remainder were irregular and sold in line with quality. There was selective continental interest on tippy and liquoring varieties. West Asia and CIS shippers operated. Local buyers operated on the better fannings. Darjeeling new season whole leaf grades met with enquiry from traditional exporters.
