Aditya Kumar Misra, veterinary professor and former Vice Chancellor of GB University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, has been appointed as the new Chairman of Agricultural Scientific Recruitment Board (ASRB), according to sources.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Friday approved the appointment of Misra, who would hold the new position till January 5, 2022 (when he attains 65 years of age) from the date of he assumes the charge, said the sources in the know of development.
Veterinary scientist specialising in economically important diseases of goat, Misra has been an acting Vice Chancellor of the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, India’s first full-fledged agricultural university.
The body which recruits technical manpower for national agricultural research system has been without a fulltime chief since its former Chief Gurbachan Sinch took voluntary retirement in May 2017. The senior most member of the board, A K Srivastava, has been heading ASRB since then.
The government last year tweaked the recruitment rules for the position of ASRB Chairman, by for the first time in its 45-year-long history allowing serving and retired bureaucrats to apply for the top job, much to the consternation of the agricultural scientific community in the country.
