Desperate selling by mills in the wake of higher production and slack demand kept sugar prices down by ₹20-30 a quintal on Friday at Vashi market. Sufficient supplies and enough stocks kept the volume under control despite rising temperature. Over supply kept morale weak all level, said sources. Arrivals to the Vashi wholesale market declined to 57-58 truck loads and local dispatches were at 54-55 loads. Inventory at Vashi is estimated at 115-120 truck loads. On Thursday evening, about 15-16 mills offered tenders and sold hardly 14,000-15,000 bags at ₹2,890-2,980 for S-grade and ₹2,980-3,100 for M-grade. The Bombay Sugar Merchants Association’s spot rates: S-grade ₹3,070-3,182 and M-grade ₹3,156-3,382. Naka delivery rates: S-grade ₹3,035-3,105 and M-grade ₹3,095-3,215 .
