Anitha Karun, Head of Crop Improvement Division of the Kasaragod-based Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), has assumed charge as Acting Director of the institute.

She succeeds P Chowdappa, who laid down office on voluntary basis on January 10.

She has been serving the CPCRI since 1991. Before joining Agricultural Research Service, she worked at Kerala Agricultural University (Pilicode).

Anitha Karun has experience in the field of tissue culture, biotechnology, horticulture and plantation crops, and developed technologies such as tissue culture in arecanut, cryo-preservation of coconut pollen and molecular biotechnological aspects.

She has published over 100 research articles in international journals.
