Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S Jaganmohan Reddy has announced a number of sops to farmers in the State on Monday.

He was speaking in his native Kadapa district on the occasion of his father, the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s birth anniversary being celebrated in the State as YSR Rythu Dinotsavam.

He promised zero-interest farm loans would be given to farmers besides free crop insurance under YSR crop insurance scheme. Further, every farmer would get financial support of ₹12,500 per annum under Rythu Bharosa scheme before the beginning of the kharif season.

He said within one month after assuming charge his Government had cleared the arrears amounting to ₹384 crore for seeds not paid by the previous TDP government and arranged supply of seeds to farmers for the current kharif season. Financial aid was given to the Bengal Gram farmers and steps were also taken to revise oil palm prices upwards, on a par with the price being paid to Telangana farmers.

He said that in association with the Telagana government his Government would make all efforts to divert surplus Godavari waters to Srisailam reservoir and provide water to the parched fields of Rayalaseema as well as some of the coastal districts like Prakasam. The Krishna delta would also be stabilised.

Jaganmohan Reddy said the previous TDP Government had “resorted to several stunts on the proposed Kadapa steel plant” but his Government would pursue it in right earnest and provide jobs to 20,000 people in the district.

The foundation stone would be laid in December.
