Low arrivals continue to mark Kochi tea auctions, with the market for good liquoring varieties and popular marks remaining steady to firm.
Despite active participation by blenders on good liquoring, other varieties were irregular and at times lower following quality.
It also witnessed some withdrawals. In sale no 36, the quantity on offer in CTC dust was only 4 lakh kg. The average price realised for dust was ₹136.19 and there was a subdued demand from exporters and upcountry buyers, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
The quantity on offer in orthodox dust was 6,000 kg and exporters continued to be the mainstay.
In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹123-173, mediums quoted ₹94-155 and plain grades stood at ₹92-106. In the leaf category, the market for good Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf and Fannings in orthodox grades barely remained steady and tended to ease.
The quantity on offer was 1,11,500 kg. The average price realisation was ₹141.80/kg.
In CTC leaf, the market for high-priced brokens and Fannings showed a decline.
The quantity on offer was 34,500 kg.
Waterfall SFD quoted the best prices of ₹173 in dust grades. Chamraj FOP-Sup (Green Tea) topped in leaf at ₹335.
