Spot turmeric was up ₹400 a quintal on Thursday.
“Because of the demand received by traders, the price of the turmeric was increased. The traders quoted increased price and purchased good number of bags. Further the stockists also started buying the turmeric for the past couple of days,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
On Thursday, 11,000 bags arrived for sale and 7,000 were sold. As usual, the Salem Hybrid and Erode Hybrid turmeric were traded at ₹9,000 and ₹8,600 a quintal respectively and local turmeric fetched ₹8,500. The finger turmeric was up ₹400 a quintal and the root variety by ₹200.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,219-9,239 a quintal and the root variety ₹5,896-8,539. Of the arrival of 3,620 bags, 2,010 were sold.
