Buoyancy continued at Sale No: 2 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions with about 87 per cent of the five-week high offer of 14.90 lakh kg being sold with prices rising Rs 2 a kg over the inaugural sale of 2012.

“Our Broken Orange Pekoe Small, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped not only the leaf market but also the entire CTC auction at Rs 157 a kg,” Mr Prashant Menon, Managing Partner, Homedale Tea Factory, told Business Line .

“Our Red Dust topped CTC dust market at Rs 147,” Mr Dinesh Raju, Managing Partner, Darmona Tea Industry, said. Vigneshwar Estate and Kannavarai Estate got Rs 146 each, Hittakkal Estate Rs 144, Highcliff supreme Rs 143, Blue Monte speciality Rs 141 and Deepika Supreme Rs 140. In all, 98 marks got Rs 100 and more.

Among orthodox teas from corporate sector, Curzon got Rs 219, Chamraj Rs 192, Havukal Rs 171 and Corsely Rs 170. In all, 29 marks got Rs 100 and more.

“Orthodox leaf gained Rs 1-2 a kg. Better liquoring CTC leaf gained Rs 2-3, cleaner blacker sorts were preferred by exporters at Rs 2-3 more. Orthodox dusts oscillated up and down Rs 5-10. Better liquoring CTC dusts got Rs 2-3 more and others Rs 1-2 but browners lost up to Rs 10,” an auctioneer said.

On the export front, Pakistan bought in wide range – Rs 53-76 a kg and the CIS Rs 48-67.

Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging Rs 48-54 a kg for plain leaf grades and Rs 80-146 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged Rs 49-55 for plain dusts and Rs 85-146 for brighter liquoring dusts.
