The Vice-Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Dr P. Murugesa Boopathy today voiced concern over the low adoption of farm technologies and varietal releases by the farming community.
"There has been no dearth in the release of crop varieties or farm implements. We have so far released more than 750 crop varieties and hundreds of farm implements, but the adoption rate is as low as 6 per cent," he said.
The challenge the farm varsity faces at this juncture is in popularising its varieties and ensuring effective transfer of technologies from lab to land.
Varsity sources attribute this poor response rate to the failure of the extension machinery in taking it forward.
