Coonoor tea auction volume falls

A volume of 14.40 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale 23 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association to be held on Thursday and Friday.

This is as much as 1.10 lakh kg less than the volume offered for the previous sale.

Of the 14.40 lakh kg offered, as much as 13.20 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.20 lakh kg orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 72,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 9.18 lakh kg CTC.

Among the dusts, only 48,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 4.02 lakh kg CTC. In all, 9.90 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 4.50 lakh kg to dust grades.

Quotations with the brokers indicated ₹74-81 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹150-206 for the best grades. For plain Dust grades, they ranged ₹70-73 and for the best grades, ₹135-203.
