Despite improved arrivals, prices of high-priced teas declined at Kochi auctions. The quantity on offer in CTC dust was 8,97,000 kg in sale no 47 and 86 per cent of the offering was sold. Blenders were active on good liquoring varieties, while there was a subdued demand from upcountry buyers. A better export enquiry was seen on teas sold between ₹90 and ₹98 a kg, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said. However, the orthodox market barely remained steady and tended to ease. The quantity on offer was 10,000 kg and exporters continued to be the mainstay of the market. In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹103-145, mediums fetched ₹94-118 and plain stood at ₹90-98. Prices in leaf category also witnessed a declining trend. Fannings also followed a similar trend. However, a better enquiry noticed from CIS countries and other exporters. There was a strong demand for CTC varieties from exporters and upcountry buyers.
