A volume of 17.12 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 48 at Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction to be held on Thursday and Friday. This will be the last auction in November.

This is 2.39 lakh kg lower than the volume offered last week as winter conditions reduced harvest.

Of the 17.12 lakh kg, 15.80 lakh kg is CTC variety and only 1.32 lakh kg, orthodox. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 83,000 kg was orthodox while 10 lakh kg was CTC. Among the dusts, only 49,000 kg was orthodox while 5.80 lakh kg CTC. In all, 10.83 lakh kg belong to Leaf grades and 6.29 lakh kg, Dust grades.

Homedale Red Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire CTC auctions last week when Tea Services India P Ltd., bought it for ₹239 a kg. In the CTC Leaf tea auctions, three grades of Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹232, ₹231 and ₹217 each.

Quotations with the brokers indicated ₹85-95 a kg for plain Leaf grades and ₹120-130 for the best grades. For plain Dust grades, they ranged 85-100 and for the best grades, ₹130-140.
