A major fire broke out today in a milk depot of the Tamilnadu Co-operative Milk Producers' Federation Ltd at Sholinganallur, over 60 km from here, but there were no casualities.
“Fire was reported at 3.45 a.m. in Aavin milk depot. By 5 a.m., we had put out the fire. Since there were many wastages such as empty cartons and plastic covers, smoke is still coming out of the spot,” the Divisional Fire Officer-Kancheepuram, Mr Parthiban, told PTI.
Though the loss is expected to be over “some crores of rupees”, the Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Co-operative Union has not given out an official figure, he said. The reason for the fire is not known, sources said.
