P.G. Gurjer, former President of the United Planters’ Association of Southern India (UPASI) and President of Karnataka Planters’ Association, has died. He was 91 years.
Gurjer who hails from Koppa, Chikmagalur in Karnataka, has also served as the Vice-Chairman of Coffee Board, President of All-India Supari Federation, Member in Arecanut Council and a former Member of the Cardamom Board.
Office bearers of Karnataka Planters’ Association has condoled his death.
The plantation industry veterans said Gurjer is known to be the crusader of plantation issues and in particular, his sustained struggle for getting the benefit of waiver for irrigation pumpset dues for the plantation areas, is well-known.
He has also been fighting other electricity matters like revision of tariffs, special coffee term loan relief, XII plan proposals, etc. and has been a vast source of knowledge to the Karnataka Planters' Association in providing all information.
