The competition was intense at the ninth edition of The Golden Leaf India Awards Southern Tea Competition-2013 (TGLIA: STC-2013), with each of the six tea producing regions in the South competing to produce better teas.
Organisers say that there were as many as 125 entries and an additional 69 entries for the auctions.
The first level of screening (of teas) just got over. A seven-member jury panel representing tea packeteers, exporters and leading brokers evaluated the entries at The United Planters’ Association of Southern India (Upasi), Coonoor on March 9.
C. Shreedharan, Convener, Organising Committee, TGLIA 2013 said that the final tasting session would be held on March 22 at Upasi and certificates to the winners will be distributed the following day at the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association.
TGLIA eAuction
And, as in the earlier editions, a special eAauction of TGLIA teas is proposed during the second week of April.
“The patronage for the TGLIA auction has also been good this year compared to last year. The offer volume is 62 tonnes against 50 tonnes last year,’’ Shreedharan said.
TGLIA eAuction is being launched at UPASI Commodities Exchange Ltd eAuction platform.
