India Meteorological department (IMD) has warned of the possibility of ground frost occurring in over Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan over the next two days.

This would come about as a result of the mercury having dipped by 2-3 degree Celsius below normal in these regions during the last 24 hours ending Monday morning.

MERCURY PLUNGE

The mercury had plunged by a similar margin also over Madhya Pradesh, west Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

But they gad looked up by 2 to 5 degree Celsius above normal over many parts of east Uttar Pradesh and the North-eastern States what with the steaming front-end of western disturbance having moved in.

It also brought about fog to dense fog conditions over some parts of east Uttar Pradesh and isolated pockets of Bihar.

The stations where visibility reduced to 50 meters or less were Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Sultanpur, Bahraich and Patna.

Meanwhile, the rear of the western disturbance and cold and sinking air thereof bore down over upstream north-west India, causing the mercury to plunge the way it did.

STEEPEST DROP

The lowest minimum temperature of 3.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Rohtak in Haryana and Churu in Rajasthan.

Rainfall was reported from many places over Sikkim, and at one or two places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam,

An outlook valid until Thursday said that weather would remain pleasant over north-west and central India with cold mornings during the next three days.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over north-west and adjoining central India. But they would fall by 2 to 3 degree Celsius over east India and the adjoining North-eastern States as the western disturbance moves away to the east.

PLEASANT WEATHER

The IMD did not also see dense fog conditions returning to the Indo-Gangetic plains during next three days.

But rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two places over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and the North-eastern States.

In the south, the weak easterly trough brought overnight rain to parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and south Andhra Pradesh and at a few places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

Insat picture on Monday showed convective (weather-causing) clouds rising over of extreme north Jammu and Kashmir, extreme south-east Tamil Nadu, south-west Andaman Sea, south and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, Comorin area and south Arabian Sea.
