Spot prices of hybrid turmeric increased at Erode, but that of the local turmeric were down. “On Thursday, 6,600 bags arrived for sale. More than 70 per cent stocks were sold. The price of the Salem Hybrid turmeric was influenced by arrival of good quality produce. Some traders have received fresh orders from North India,” said Krishnamurthy, a trader. He said in Nizamabad, Warangal and Sangli, the arrival of new turmeric is up at 15,000 a day and buyers from here are purchasing enthusiastically for their requirements. The Salem Hybrid finger variety was up ₹350 a quintal and the root variety by ₹330. But the price of local new finger turmeric decreased by ₹250 a quintal and the root variety by ₹150. At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety went for ₹6,779-7,899 a quintal; the root variety ₹6,099-7,139. Of the arrival of 965 bags, 818 were sold.
