The arrival of turmeric for sale has decreased but prices did not improve. Finger turmeric (hybrid), due to quality issues, lost ₹200 a quintal, while root variety went down by ₹300. “Inflows decreased to 3,700 bags but 80 per cent of the arrivals were sold. The turmeric season will be over in ten days, so the traders expect more number of bags to arrive,” said Krishnamurthy, a trader. The traders purchased mini-Salem hybrid finger variety at a higher price. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,691-8,629 a quintal; root variety at ₹5,325-8,002. Of the 2,350 bags on sale, 1,396 were sold.
