Spot prices of turmeric increased at the markets in Erode as arrivals were low and quality improved. “Only 1,600 bags arrived for sale and 50 per cent of the arrivals were good quality turmeric. So the traders quoted higher price and purchased all the fine quality produce and some bags of medium variety turmeric,” said Krishnamurthy, a trader. Regarding the price, finger variety decreased by ₹400 a quintal and root variety lost ₹300. At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety was sold at ₹6,989-8,239 a quintal; root variety at ₹6,465-7,455. Of the 389 bags offered, 325 were sold.
