Spot turmeric prices decreased by ₹200 a quintal at Erode markets on Thursday.

“On Thursday, heavy arrival of 8,500 bags was reported and the traders quoted decreased price,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

He said of the arrival, 60 per cent stocks were sold. The traders said that only medium quality turmeric arriving for sale, so they are buying limited stock. The price of the finger turmeric was down ₹600 a quintal due to quality. Similarly, the price of the Salem finger turmeric decreased by ₹150 whereas the price of the Salem root variety was up ₹200.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,499-8,588 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,399-7,499.

Salem Turmeric: The finger variety fetched ₹7,269-9,559 and the root variety ₹6,409-8,214. Of the arrival of 1,943 bags, 816 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric traded at ₹7,189-8,355; the root variety ₹7,094-8,061. Of the 1,365 bags on sale, 1,063 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,514-7,889; the root variety ₹6,889-7,699. Of the 1,118 bags offered, 1,076 were sold.
