The Coonoor-based Homedale Tea Factory, a small-scale bought leaf tea factory, has done a hat-trick with its CTC leaf grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topping the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association for the third consecutive week beating even the orthodox teas from the corporate sector.
At the pre-Diwali auctions titled Sale No: 44, Homedale Estate’s Broken Pekoe grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire auctions when Belmount Tea and Produce Co., bought it for ₹291 a kg. This is highly significant because it was three times the average price of ₹97.44 a kg recorded at this auction. Pinewood Estate followed at ₹226 a kg.
In the CTC Dust tea auctions, Homedale Estate’s two grades, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹227 and ₹223 each. Two grades of Darmona Estate tea, auctioned by J Thomas and Co., followed at ₹201 each. Teas from all other factories fetched less than ₹200 a kg.
Among orthodox teas, Kodanad topped at ₹230. All others got less than ₹200/kg.
In all, about 97 per cent of the offer was sold with the average price rising to ₹97.44 a kg from the previous week’s₹93.81.
