Students of the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will organise Amaethon, the annual agri-business, food and rural management summit, here on January 11 and 12.

Gujarat Agriculture Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma will inaugurate the two-day event, whose theme this year is to brainstorm on the dynamics of the ‘Emerging Landscapes in Food and Agri-business’, and the way ahead, by bringing together students, academia and professionals in the sector from all over the country on a common platform.

The highlights include management workshops for students and younger professionals, and a number of panel discussions and business strategy competitions, IIMA said in a statement here on Friday.

The three panel discussions will centre around the themes of agri-business, food and rural development. The participants include experts like Union Food Processing Industry Secretary Siraj Hussain, GCMMF Managing Director R. S. Sodhi, former Union Minister and economist Yoginder K. Alagh.

Among major events of Amaethon 2014 will be the Venture Challenge, a business plan competition, and Rural Crusaders, a rural marketing competition.

These will give an opportunity to budding entrepreneur teams from management schools across the country to showcase their novel ideas, marketing plans and business acumen in the major domains of the summit.

A number of workshops are also being designed for skill development and transfer of knowledge to students across India.

Sponsors for Amaethon this year are Monsanto India Pvt Ltd, Sakhti Group of Companies, Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd and Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Ltd.
