Agriculture Secretary S K Pattanayak on Friday said the issues raised by farmers are local in nature and need to be tackled locally. If there are any issues for the Central Government to look into, it will do so. “We are taking up local issues with respective State governments,” he said on the sidelines of a launch of a portal to connect buyers with farmer producer organisations.
“We have not received representations from the protesting farmers. But we are aware of the issues from the media. And we are sensitive to their needs,” he said. Ramesh Chand, Member of policy think-tank, NITI Aayog, the minimum support prices (MSP) soon to be announced for kharif 2018 season would see substantial increase in floor prices and ease farmers’ woes. Besides, unlike in the past where MSP was just announced but never followed in letter and spirit, now on they would be honoured. This is the commitment from the government, Chand said.
There will be significant improvement in prices of agricultural produce from this kharif season , he said.
