Improved arrivals lifted the prices of some tea varieties at Kochi auction. Good liquoring and popular tea marks were steady to firm and sometimes dearer.

Others were irregular and lower, witnessing a lot of withdrawals especially in the medium and plainer segments.

The quantity on offer in CTC dust was 10,71,000, registering an increase compared to last week.

However, there was subdued demand from exporters. Vendors such as AVT and Kerala Civil Supplies Corporation continued to be active on good liquoring varieties, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

With fair demand, the primary market for orthodox grades remained steady and exporters continued to be the mainstay. The quantity on offer was 20,000 kg.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good grades fetched ₹100-151, mediums quoted ₹65-105 while plain varieties stood at ₹51-61.

Arrivals have improved considerably in leaf sale with 209,000 kg on offer in orthodox grade. With good demand, the market for select best highgrown brokens and whole leaf barely remained steady.

Fannings from the same origin was lower by ₹5 to ₹10 and sometimes more. CIS countries and other exporters were active in this category.

The quantity on offer in CTC grade was 64,000 kg with good liquoring bolder brokens remaining dearer. Smaller brokens and fannings tended to ease. Exporters and upcountry buyers absorbed bulk of the offerings.

In dust grades, Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹153 followed by Mayura SFD at ₹141. In leaf grades, Chamraj FOP-Sup Green Tea fetched the best prices of ₹316 followed by P’s Woodlands Hyson Green tea at ₹291.
