The price of spot turmeric has improved by Rs 100 a quintal, but due to arrival of low quality hybrid crop, the prices of hybrid variety were down.

“The exporters and traders have received fresh orders from North India, so they have purchased 70 per cent of the arrived 16,000 and odd bags of turmeric. Further, they are expecting the prices to shoot up within a week's time, as the new contract for the turmeric futures will begin from May 21, when everyone expects the prices to increase,” said Mr R.K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales Yard, the finger variety was sold at Rs 2,299 to Rs 3,734 a quintal, root variety Rs 2,209 to Rs 3,434 .
