The price of spot turmeric has improved by Rs 100 a quintal, but due to arrival of low quality hybrid crop, the prices of hybrid variety were down.
“The exporters and traders have received fresh orders from North India, so they have purchased 70 per cent of the arrived 16,000 and odd bags of turmeric. Further, they are expecting the prices to shoot up within a week's time, as the new contract for the turmeric futures will begin from May 21, when everyone expects the prices to increase,” said Mr R.K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales Yard, the finger variety was sold at Rs 2,299 to Rs 3,734 a quintal, root variety Rs 2,209 to Rs 3,434 .

The finger variety was sold at Rs 3,906 to Rs 4,330 a quintal, root variety Rs 3,304 to Rs 3,734 . Out of arrival of 2,865 bags of turmeric, 1,298 bags were sold.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety fetched Rs 3,499 to Rs 3,948 , root variety Rs 3,189 to Rs 3,789 . Out of arrival of 1,874 bags, 1,796 bags were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger variety was sold at Rs 3,089 to Rs 3,969 , root variety Rs 3,089 to Rs 3,769 . All the 1395 bags arrived for sales were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, finger variety was sold at Rs 3,288 to Rs 3,969 , root variety Rs 2,769 to Rs 3,739 . All the 547 bags kept for sales were sold.
