The Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister, Mr K.A. Sengottaiyan, today expressed confidence about a bountiful foodgrains production this year.
“Foodgrains production will not be affected this year, as all the reservoirs have enough water (as of now). Similarly, the Government is keeping enough stock of fertilisers, pesticides and certified seeds,” the Minister told reporters after conducting a review meeting of all the 68 Government departments in Erode district.
Mr Sengottaiyan added that a “full-fledged turmeric complex with sufficient space for the local traders, farmers and the Regulated Marketing Committee” would be started in the district soon.
Two meetings over the allocation of space in the new complex had been completed with the Regulated Marketing Committee authorities and traders and a third meeting with turmeric farmers would be conducted over the issue soon, after which the formation of the complex would be finalised, the Minister said.
