Total milk production in the country during the summer of 2017-18 went up by 4.7 per cent to 53.77 million tonnes (mt) against 51.33 mt in the corresponding period last year, according to an official statement on Tuesday. Egg production in the country during 2017-18 was 27.95 billion — up 7.4 per cent than the previous year. While Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh topped in the dairy sector, the highest egg producing States in the country were Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal and Haryana, the release said.
