NAFED has procured over 1.79 lakh tonnes of mustard at a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹5950 per quintal till April 20 in the ongoing rabi marketing season.

Bulk of this procurement has been carried out in the state of Haryana, where NAFED has purchased over 1.61 lakh tonnes.

In Madhya Pradesh over 11,743 tonnes of mustard has been purchased at MSP, while in the largest producing state of Rajasthan, the procured quantity stood at 5,893 tonnes, as per the latest data. In Assam, NAFED has procured some 1044 tonnes and in Uttar Pradesh about 16.3 tonnes.

The procurement at MSP is still on in various producing states as mustard prices continue to rule below the minimum support price levels across many mandis.

On Monday, the modal price, the price at which majority of the trades take place, ranged between ₹5099 to ₹6115 per quintal across mandis in Rajasthan. Except for the Malapura (Todaraisingh) mandi in Tonk, where the modal price ruled at ₹6115 per quintal, the prices across all other mandi are hovering below the MSP levelsin the state.

The Government has set a procurement target of 28.28 lakh tonnes of mustard for the rabi marketing season 2025. As per the second advance estimates, the mustard production for 2024-25 is seen lower by around 3 per cent at 128.73 lakh tonnes as compared to the previous year’s 132.59 lakh tonnes.

During the kharif 2024 marketing season, NAFED has procured 14.71 lakh tonnes of soyabean at MSP of Rs 4892 per quintal. Bulk of the procurement was in Maharashtra at 8.36 lakh tonnes, while in Madhya Pradesh it was 3.88 lakh tonnes.

NAFED has also procured 14.43 lakh tonnes of groundnut under the kharif 2024 price support scheme at MSP of Rs 6783 per quintal. In Gujarat, over 9.22 lakh tonnes of groundnut have been procured, while in Rajasthan the procured quantity was over 4.38 lakh tonnes.
