India’s natural rubber production increased by 4 per cent in June this year to 59,200 tonnes, while consumption rose more than 6 per cent to 80,500 tonnes.

According to Rubber Board data, production and consumption in the year-ago period stood at 56,850 tonnes and 75,450 tonnes, respectively.

However, production fell marginally on a month-on-month basis in June to 59,200 tonnes from 59,700 tonnes in May. Likewise, the consumption also declined marginally to 80,500 tonnes from 81,000 tonnes.

Rubber exports increased by more than five-fold to 3,104 tonnes in June this year from 618 tonnes in the same period of the previous year. Shipments on a month-on-month basis rose 78 per cent. The country exported 1,742 tonnes in May 2011.

Similarly, imports increased by almost 60 per cent in June 2011 to 19,118 tonnes from 11,985 tonnes in the year-ago period. Imports of natural rubber on a month-on-month basis rose 16 per cent. India had imported 16,293 tonnes in May 2011.

Natural rubber stocks rose almost 37 per cent in June this year to 2,47,442 tonnes from 1,80,697 tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year.
