Poor upcountry demand, arrivals of medium quality produce and higher inflow have dragged down spot turmeric prices at the markets in Erode. Arrivals increased to 4,000 bags and traders quoted higher price for quality turmeric. On an average, 65 per cent of the arrivals were sold. Export quality turmeric was up ₹200 a quintal (finger) and the local finger variety lost ₹100. Root variety too was down by ₹100. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety went for ₹7,399-8,100 a quintal; root variety for ₹6,896-7,494. Of the 763 bags offered, 574 were sold.
