After several months of subdued sales resulting in over 30 per cent of the offer remaining unabsorbed, there was 80 per cent absorption at Sale No: 24 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction when 19.91 lakh kg was offered.

Besides, new price records were created when two Dust grades from Vigneshwar Estate tea factory which have won ‘Golden Leaf India Award 2015’, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing, were bought by J K Enterprises for ₹250 a kg each. “This is the highest price fetched by any CTC tea so far in the Dust market in 2015,” Ravichandran Broos, Paramount General Manger, told BusinessLine.

Homedale Estate’s Peko Dust (₹207) and Red Dust (₹205), auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, were the only other grades which entered the high-price bracket of ₹200/kg for CTC tea. In all, 53 marks fetched ₹125 and more per kg.

Kairbetta topped orthodox market from corporate sector fetching ₹246, followed by Kodanad ₹242, Havukal ₹236 and Chamraj ₹225. In all, 38 marks got ₹125 and more per kg.

Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ₹40-44 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹100-140 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ₹48-54 for plain dusts and ₹110-160 for brighter liquoring dusts. There was some purchase for Pakistan for ₹45-58 a kg.
