The price of the new turmeric increased at the markets in Erode. On Friday, arrivals of the new turmeric declined to 650 bags, but the prices increased. “The buyers are keen in buying all the new turmeric and purchased reasonable quantity of the old turmeric for their demand,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. He said 4,000 bags arrived totally of this 65 per cent stocks were sold. The new finger turmeric gained ₹150 a quintal, while the old turmeric lost ₹200. Similarly, prices of the old and new root variety were down by ₹100 a quintal.
