The Agriculture Ministry has approved Maharashtra Government's proposal of constructing fishing harbours in Raigad and Thane district at a cost of Rs 129.58 crore, Parliament was informed on Tuesday.
The Ministry also asked the State to constitute a management system and finalise cost estimates for the modernisation of the Sasson dock fishing harbour in Mumbai, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Mr Charan Das Mahant, said in a written reply to Lok Sabha. “The Ministry of Agriculture had in March 2011 accorded approval to the proposal of Government of Maharashtra for construction of fishing harbours at Karanja in Raigad district and Arnala in Thane district, respectively, at a cost of Rs 68.02 crore and Rs 61.56 crore, with 75 per cent Central assistance,” Mr Mahant said.
The first instalment of Rs 4 crore and Rs 3 crore, respectively, for Karanja and Arnala fishing harbour projects was released to Maharashtra in March 2011, he added.
For modernisation of the Sasson dock fishing harbour, the Mumbai Port Trust has been asked to constitute a dedicated management system and finalise the cost estimates, he informed the House.
