A volume of 18.98 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 29 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions to be held on Thursday and Friday. This is as much as 3.59 lakh kg more than last week’s offer.
Of this, 12.73 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 6.25 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 17.63 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.35 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 77,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 11.96 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 58,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 5.67 lakh kg, CTC.
Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire CTC auctions last week when Oswal Tea Traders bought it for ₹251 a kg. In the CTC Leaf auctions, Homedale Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹207.
