Spot turmeric prices decreased at Erode markets by ₹1,300 a quintal within a month.
“This is due to the non-receipt of fresh demand from North India. The price of the turmeric was sold at ₹8,369 a quintal in the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard on May 4 and it is now selling at ₹7,809. Similarly, in the Regulated Market Committee the price of the yellow spice was sold at ₹8,699 and is now ruling at ₹7,349,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
On Tuesday, the arrival of turmeric was 5,100 bags and the sale was only 50 per cent. The prices were down ₹200 a quintal. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric traded at ₹5,277-7,909 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,177-7,299. Of the arrival of 1,365 bags, 590 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,260-7,519; the root variety ₹6,196-7,319. Of the arrival of 528 bags, 410 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,449-7,519; the root variety ₹6,200-7,389. Of the 1,400 bags on sale, 1,215 were traded.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹6,798-7,498; the root variety ₹5,769-7,259. All the 127 bags found takers.
