Spot prices of the turmeric decreased at Erode markets on Tuesday despite lower arrivals. This is due to the sudden drop of two per cent in turmeric futures, said Palanisamy a trader. He said that only 2, 000 bags including 700 bags of new crop arrived for sale. All the new turmeric were sold and 60 per cent of the old turmeric were sold. The traders were keen in buying good quality finger turmeric. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, new finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,111-7,735 a quintal; root variety at ₹5,862-7,239 . The old finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,816-7,899 ; root variety at ₹5,369-7,289 . Of the total arrival of 1, 789 bags, 757 were sold. At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,639-8,209 ; root variety at ₹6,108-7,177 . Of the 213 bags offered,157 were traded. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,268-7,791 ; root variety was sold at ₹5,999-7,111 . Out of the 293 bags , 280 were sold.
