Subdued demand from blenders and upcountry buyers hit Kochi tea sale. Demand for high-priced CTC dust barely remained steady and tended to ease following quality.
Mediums sold around last level, while plainer and browner teas were irregular and lower. The average price realised in dust varieties was almost the same at the previous week’s level of Rs 126. In sale no 49, the quantity on offer was 9,70,540.80 kg.
Arrivals in orthodox grade were low at 8,500 kg and the market for primary grades was dearer. Others were irregular and lower, witnessing some withdrawals. Exporters continued to be the main stakeholders.
In Cochin CTC dust, good varieties fetched Rs128-173, medium quoted Rs101-133 and plain grades stood at Rs 92-106. In leaf category, the market for good Nilgiri brokens in orthodox grades barely remained steady and tended to ease, while whole leaf was firm to dearer. The quantity on offer was 2,62,716 kg. Exporters to CIS and traditional exporters lent fair support.
In CTC leaf, the market for good liquoring brokens was dearer, while fannings barely remained steady and tended to ease. The quantity on offer was 53,500 kg. Monica SFD quoted the best prices of Rs 173 in dust varieties, while Kodanad TGFOPS was quoted at Rs 230.
