Sugar prices at upper mill and naka level ruled steady but at the Vashi wholesale market it gained by ₹10-20 a quintal on back of higher freight charges which went up by ₹20 in the last two sessions. Activities improved as demand from local retailers was higher on fear of hartal amid possible shortage in supply. Freight rates were steady at ₹115-120 a bag. Arrivals to the Vashi market were at 53-54 truck loads and local dispatches were at 57-58 loads. The Bombay Sugar Merchants Association’s spot rates: S-grade ₹3,242-3,332 and M-grade ₹3,320-3,552. Naka delivery rates: S-grade ₹3,200-3,250 and M-grade ₹3,270-3,360.
