The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru; the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasaragod; and the Association for Advancement of Pest Management in Horticultural Ecosystems, Bengaluru, will conduct an international symposium on ‘Phytophthora: taxonomy, genomics, pathogenicity, resistance and disease management’ at Bengaluru from September 9-12.
A press release by P Chowdappa, Director of Central Plantation Crops Research Institute and organising secretary of the symposium, said here on Tuesday that the pathogen phytophthora causes devastating diseases on a wide range of agricultural crops, natural vegetation and forestry worldwide. There are over 120 phytophthora species.
He said the international symposium would deliberate on various issues of concern and would come out with recommendations and action plans for management of diseases caused by phytophthora.
More than 150 delegates from across the country, including 20 delegates from different parts of the world, would participate in the deliberations.
S Ayyappan, Secretary of Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Director-General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, will inaugurate the symposium on September 9, he said.
