The Tea Board is working on recovering the unpaid sum by the bought-leaf factories in the Nilgiris to the small growers.
The Board, as per the advice of the District Green Leaf Price Monitoring Committee (DGLPMC), has been announcing the district average price to be paid by bought-leaf factories to the small growers every month since December 2015.
“However, between May and August this year, the number of defaulting factories had increased causing serious concern to us,” Tea Board Executive Director C Paulrasu said. He also said that the defaulted amount till August totalled about ₹37 crore.
Meanwhile, the Tea Board has fixed the district average price for October to be ₹11/kg – the same as for September.
